Contemporary fiction—Anne Rice above all—frames vampirism not merely as a need for sustenance, but as an exchange of vital essence: drinking from a body where the heart has stopped beating means ingesting death itself, stagnation, and emptiness, risking poisoning or the stunting of the soul. Drawing inspiration from this narrative, I imagined the two great Italian singer-songwriters, Guccini and De André, profaned and vampirized after their death, with lethal consequences for anyone who, with cynical and pathetic arrogance, attempts to co-opt their legacy to turn them into convenient allies. Trying to suck the essence of those who in life ferociously opposed and fought your very ideas does not nourish you: it makes you swallow only poison, condemning the parasite to choke.
