The image represents the individual's inability to alter their fate. At the center of the table sits a circle: it is the symbol of a continuous storm, a prison in which the subject is condemned to endlessly repeat an illusory path. The individual is motionless in their non-existence; their perceptions do not belong to them, nor can they control or select them through an act of will.
One is tempted to believe that the act of raising the card is a free choice, a gesture of self-determination. But in that specific web of interdependencies, raising that card was not one possibility among many: it was the only one. If we examine the causal chain that guided the hand in reverse, we discover the absence of any true control center. The act is the result of factors that precede and compose us, not of a sovereign will.
A widespread illusion exists today: the idea that life is a pleasure trip, a vacation whose ultimate goal is happiness. This perception is an artifact of our degree of civilization. If we look at natural history or the life of primitive man, birth appears to be anything but a blessing: it is an entry into a battlefield. It is fear, exposure to predators, and a constant struggle against natural or biological adversities. For millennia, suffering was the only true companion of brief human existence.
Our current conviction—that we must be healthy, fulfilled, and protected from every obstacle—is a perspectival deformation produced by technological comfort. We have built ourselves a welcoming home in this world and, as a reflection, we have lost the fundamental truth: we are not here for a vacation. The path we are treading is not a holiday, but an exile. It is a state of imprisonment, a forced distance from the depth of that immobile and eternal Field we have forgotten.
Even those who attempt to withdraw, those who choose absenteeism to deny or escape this path, are not exercising real freedom. It is a choice that is itself conditioned, a vain attempt that translates into a return, into an infinite resonance. In this cycle, events do not close: they resonate forever.
