4258 Ascent of Materialism
The work manifests the tragic and inevitable parabola of human existence through a vertical structure that acts as a pitiless judge of every man's destiny. At the base of the tower, the bodies lying among the shadows represent the simple-hearted, figures who moved through a life of dignified labor and honest humility without ever yielding to the temptation of social climbing. These individuals, who lived with dedication far from grand ambitions, now lie in a state of profound inner peace, as their death arrives as a deserved rest, free from the torment of competition and the damnation of those who sold their souls for power. Ascending the structure, the gaze meets the intermediate zone where the fiercest rivalry dominates: here, men push and fight each other with rage, crushed by the obsessive need to overtake one another to gain even a single inch of height and accumulate illusory wealth. Theirs is a frantic and blind race, driven by the belief that earthly glory can offer some form of immortality. However, the summit of the tower reveals the harshest truth, showing figures laden with gold and surrounded by treasures who, at the moment of their maximum triumph, are brutally devoured by a dark and monstrous mouth. This terrifying abyss represents the inexorable fate awaiting every human being, reminding us with extreme force that death is the only true universal leveler. The race toward gold and glory thus reveals itself as an absurd and vacant exercise, as the monster waiting at the peak consumes the rich with the same ruthlessness with which time reached the humble workers at the base. The difference lies exclusively in the way one welcomes the end: in the peaceful silence of those who lived with simplicity, or in the terror of those who discover, too late, that gold is a useless burden before the jaws of the void.
